What would achievements be like in D3?
« on: June 10, 2011, 12:31:51 PM »
This section needs more threads! :P

With nothing better to do on my lunch hour, I started wondering... if D3 had had achievements in the two 'official' singleplayer games, what would the achievements have been?  I ended up coming up with a huge list.
The idea here is you add your ideas and once we have lots we can... do nothing with them :P.

Anyway these were the ideas I had (some of them I'm not sure are possible).  In addition to the 'fun' ones there is one for completing each mission and one for completing any special objectives:

Descent 3 Retribution:
----------------------------

Classified Data: Find the data on Dr Sweitzer's location in the PTMC Data Retention center.

PTMC Shield Retention: Complete the mission on the PTMC Data Retention center without taking any damage from robots.

Breakout: Rescue Dr Sweitzer from Novak Corporate Prison.

Archival Chaos: Destroy all the prisoner databanks in the Novak facility.

Exploration: Explore all areas of the alien temple in the lava cave on Tiris

Research: Find Dr Sweitzer's research data on Tiris.

Do this the hard way: Defeat the Super Thief boss while it's using one of your own weapons against you.

Do this the easy way: Defeat the Super Theif boss without letting it steal any of your weapons.

Incrimination: Deliver the evidence against Dravis to President Suzuki

Holier than thou: Defeat the PTMC Mercenaries in Seoul

They think we're terrorists!: Defend Red Acropolis long enough for everyone to escape

Impenetrable defense: Keep all five of the Red Acropolis reactors online for the full 12 minutes (I seriously challenge anyone to do this on hotshot or higher).

Chosen one: Get the priest icon in Noctis Labyrinthus

Out of the ashes: Defeat the homunculus monster and get the crashed Phoenix Interceptor from Noctis Labyrinthus

Deep Freeze: Destroy the heating systems in the mine on Ceres

Infection: Get both virus samples from the mine on Ceres

Flaming Core: Destroy all the heat sinks in the Dol Ammad Fuel Refinery

Science must go on: Rescue the scientists trapped in the medical frigate.

Green Glow: Find the mysterious core of Origin Zero.

Sabotage: Disrupt all the seismic stabilizers on Mercury.

Assault Craft: Get the Magnum AHT

Not a terrorist: Upload your evidence to the CED.

Unseen killer: Destroy all the lunar canyon guards by sniping them with your mass driver.

Cold Storage: Free the captured pilot from the PTMC Storage Facility

Defensive failure: Destroy all turrets in the PTMC Storage Facility

No Storage: Destroy all crates in the PTMC Storage Facility

Free Thyself: Escape from the PTMC Proving Grounds

Dodge This!: Destroy all the championship contenders while trapping them in a single blackshark missile

Champion of the world: Defeat the dragon boss

High Speed Destruction: Destroy the High Velocity Weapons Research facility

Not all evil: Find the friendly robot on the CED Expediator

Close call: Free the CED Expediator from the infected stormtrooper army

CED Expeditor: Free the Expediator in less than 15 minutes

Antidote: Broadcast the anti-virus

Fix it: Repair the energy centers in Dravis' Stronghold

Better pilot: Defeat all the mercenaries in Dravis' Stronghold

Retribution: Defeat the Hellion Assault Mech

Blasted pickpockets!: Destroy all theives in D3 Retribution

Total Insanity: Complete the game on Insane

Nostalgia smash: Destroy all Class 1 Drones

Thorough: complete all secondary objectives on one run through

Max Speed: Complete the game again, using only the phoenix interceptor

Max Power: Complete the game again, using only the Magnum AHT

Descent 3 Mercenary:
----------------------------------

Left for Dead: Get to the waste disposal system to avoid the destruction of Mars Colony

Future Sight: Get to the waste disposal system without waiting to hear your notice of dismissal from the CED

Premature dismissal: Go to the top of the level and get your notice of dismissal before starting the Mars Colony self-destruct

Revenge: Cause the death of General Morgan

FailUnsafe: End the failsafe project

Only the darkest...: Get the black pyro

Mayhem bronze: Destroy 20 robots using only the equipment in the CED Tracking Station's hangers

Mayhem Silver: Destroy 45 robots using only the equipment in the CED Tracking Station's hangers

Mayhem Gold: Destroy 70 robots using only the equipment in the CED Tracking Station's hangers

Play Ball: Win all the ball games in the CED Tracking Station

Even robots need to stay fit: Find the robot excersize area in the CED Tracking Station

Coverup: Destroy the CED Tracking Station

Extermination: Destroy the alien hive.

Viral Warfare: Infect Sweitzer's laboratory

Creepers: Destroy all the experimental robots in Sweitzer's lab

Robot Slaughter: Unleash the minibosses

[joke]Insane tolerance: Complete the PTMC Cesium Mine with music at full volume for the entire mission.

The real terrorist: Cause the death of President Suzuki

No match for...: Defeat the PTMC Gatling MP-1

Faster than a speeding cheat code: Use the level warping cheat to finish all Mercenary missions from level 3 onwards, using the phoenix interceptor from level 1

General/anything:
-----------------
Have a blast: Destroy a robot with another robot's explosion

Enemy ID Error: Trick the robots into fighting each other

Nothing can hide: Find all secret levels and secret areas in all missions

Completionist: Find all full-map powerups

Mass Destruction: Kill 50 robots with a mass driver

Fight fire with fire: Kill at least one red gyro, at least one flametrooper, and at least one red groundtrooper with a napalm cannon or napalm rockets.

Fight robots with robots: Kill 10 robots using only gunboys

Minefield: Kill 30 robots using only countermeasures

Power Siphon: Find all energy-to-shield converters

Multikill: Kill 3 robots with the same fusion shot

Cool Burnin': Find all afterburner coolers

:o That would be very cool indeed!

If only D3 would be a Steam game, imagine all the cool Steam features it could have.

you must have a lot of time during lunch hour.

I'm not the most creative in names but:

Faster than a speeding train/locomotive: Make it past the train station on ace or insane
Stay out of the sun: Lose no more than (#) shields from the sun (if that's even possible to do)

(when you're protecting that ship that gets the magnum, was there something you could get, some object to do something. I'm trying to remember)

Pyromania: Burn all of the trees in (level 14; whatever that area is called)

something like that. I know not all achievements have something to do with completing the game, which I see you have listed quite a bit on that already. it's just fun little things people may do that may actually end up as an achievement.

update: pick one of the three; unless more than one would sound good enough to keep, assuming the achievement awards  ever happens  :P

Overkill: Destroy 10 maintenance bots with a fusion
Need the juice: Destroy 10 maintenance bots to obtain energy
Annoyance: Destroy 10 maintenance bots with flares

Animal lover: destroy dumpsters on Level 4 until you find a lizard

Animal abuser: kill the lizard that you find

Bird Brain: ram to death at least 3 birds on level 14

Clutz: have the thief jack your headlight

Double clutz: and forget picking it up and having it ready for the next level

Who's the thief now?: snag a powerup that a barnswallow is carrying

Buddy Bot keeper: allow the guide bot to find all of his powerups in every level

Useless baggage: never use the guide bot

An eye for an eye: after the guide bot "accidentally" flares you, hit 'em with the Mass Driver

Made in China: find all mega missile powerups

When that thing ain't reading over 50...: when your shields are below 50, recharge them back to 100 by using the omega cannon and waste an absurd amount of energy

Meet public menace #1: Play a multiplayer game with Geordon playing as one of his 30 aliases.

Man of many faces: over your multiplayer career, encounter all aliases of Geordon

Hat trick: make 3 captures in Capture The Flag in one life

Transmode Virus: convert 3 Entropy bases in one life.

Calculated risk failure: begin capturing an Entropy base with enough viruses, but not enough shields to survive

Not usually my job, but...: capture the flag in a Magnum

LOLTRINOOB: fire a slightly charged fusion shot down a hall so that no matter where the target is, he will DIE. (target needs 100 shields. Easiest achievement here)

Ace: get 5 kills in a multiplayer game

Double Ace: get 10 kills in a multiplayer game

Tripple Ace: get 15 kills in a multiplayer game

Juggernaut: get 5 kills in a row without dying in a multiplayer game

Double/Tripple Juggernaut: ......

Fires of Mordor: get burned to death by the volcano in B-Side level 2

Hell Hole: die in the hole under the volcano in B-Side level 2

Duck and cover: trigger an earthquake in B-Side level 4 (how do you do that anyways?)

Ultimate boss destroyer: Destroy the balloon on B-Side level 2 (Darc and I got this one :D )

I like this idea too. :)

The only one I can think of off hand is Flashback: Revisit D1 Level 1 but that one's kind of a gimme. :P

Scyphi, to give it a slight challenge, it could be like this:

Assume the Nostalgia position: Position yourself at the start of Descent 1 in Level 10

All the player has to do is fly to the old mine's start location, turn around, and hold there for a second.

See, I'm no good at this. :P

Probably doesn't help that the only two games I've played that has achievements are both Portal games, and most of those I don't even notice when I get them.  ::)

That was the first thought that crossed my mind when I saw this thread. I thought about proposing it as a possible achievement for D3 (like for when you go to kill Dravis) but then thought against it. :P

Premature dismissal: Go to the top of the level and get your notice of dismissal before starting the Mars Colony self-destruct
I do it that way almost every single time. :D

Multikill: Kill 3 robots with the same fusion shot
These are just plain fun.  ;D
