Very odd, especialy since the movie 'Descent' had nothing to do with the game, it was about some cavers, IIRC.

But Allister Brimble was the musician for the D1 MAC soundtrack.
So now we know the titles, but we don't know which songs they are :P.

Would you mind giving a list of the music in all the levels on D1 PSX (if you remember of course)?  Apart from what you've said I know that Haunted was in level 8 (I saw a post from NumberZero/Omega on the DBB and saw it in a youtube video), and I saw a youtube video that suggested that Ratzez was in level 13 (the music was really quiet though so it was very hard to tell).  Since I have all the music that was in the PSX version now, it would be cool to play through D1 again with that soundtrack.

It would be less confusing to have a list of the levels and then what song was in them than the other way around.

HIDDEN on the PSX disc, but not a song in ANY level is the FULL version of Glut:
http://www.planetdescent.net/index.php?action=mgallery;sa=item;id=295

I'm 110% confident in the level-song association track order of these songs. The PSX version of D1 is what I grew up with and is what I went out and bought after trying the demo on my aunt's "new" Windows 95 computer in the summer of '96. D1 demo came with her computer. I never owned the PC version of D1 until 2000 and I was shocked to find out that the songs didn't loop after level 5! lol!

As a side note: I don't know the logic in the developers' order in the songs. They seem to be randomly placed around after level 13, yet they only use Haunted and Ratzez once, and use Industrial Accident SEVERAL times when they could have replaced one or two of those with the hidden Glut track that's on there. But, everytime I ago to level 25, I always am reminded of Robotic Menace, not necessarily the Game12 version of it, but the remix Allister Brimble did of it. It really matches being on a "Pluto Outpost." Also, it could be that that song is just my first stone-ground impression of the level because like I said, I grew up with the PSX version.

Another note, The PSX version had cleaner loops of the songs. Yes, they would repeat in-level, but the songs weren't extended to seven minute songs like in the MAC version. They were generally 3-5 minutes each with no excess.

As for Level 13's Ratzez, the reason I think that the PSX version cut out the "WEE WOO" part of Ratzez in the PSX version is because it gets quieter in the end, although, in that Ratzez I have the link to that says "PSX Ratzez," I leveled out the volume towards the end because when it comes to Descent music, I am beyond a psychotic obsessive compulsive perfectionist! LOL

I thought you sounded like someone who would remember these things 110%. 8) (I think I'm a good judge of determining that seeing as I tend to remember obscure things like this perfectly too).
Though I thought we agreed that Overdrive was a remix of game04.  Not that it matters (minds change).  Just curious why you changed your mind on that one.

Oh my gosh! I had a little epiphany last night... I played Game09 on Soundrecorder and Overdrive on my Winamp and it follows it TO THA TEE!! ALSO! I always thought that "Industrial Accident" was "Game15"... I listened to it for like 30 minutes, thinking about the other D1 MIDIs it could sound like, and it totally goes with Game06! So, I made some drastic changes to my lineup:

Game01: Rusty (Was D2 Game01)
Game04: NOTHING!!! *tear* This was an AWESOME MIDI. Know of any good remixes that I could put here? For now, I have the D1 PSX version of Haunted here as a place holder.
Game06: Industrial Accident (Was Game15)
Game09: Overdrive (Was Game04)
Game15: Are You Descent? (Was Game09) I really think this goes here better.
Game16: I made my own track because there isn't one for Game16 that makes sense.
Game23 (AKA D2 Game01): Cold Reality
Game26 (AKA D2 Game04): Haunted (Full Instrumental Remix)
D2 Briefing: Crawl <---This was a part of my ephiphany. It really goes well with this one. However, it inadvertently caused Game04 to be homeless.

It's funny that this shift comes when it makes big news that the zodiac system got rocked with the Ophiuchus sign recently. Something planetary is at work! But I'm not shocked at all by that. I was born November 26th, and I've always known I was a Scorpio even before this 3000 year old error got brought into the limelight.

Something obscure I remembered.  I could swear that the Mac Descent had a remix of PC Level 1 and Level 13.  I don't think this was true of the commercial version, but I believe the demo had different music - probably MIDI based if the Mac soundtrack was Redbook.  Would be interesting to find out.

Sorry for bumping an old thread, if it is, I didn't check the time stamp. This is all D1 Mac edition music, as in the actual titles instead of "BG Music 1" and "BG music 2, 3, etc.."?

I have those on CD with just having it labeled as "BG" but an actual title to the songs would be better :)

Yessir... these are the actual titles that I looked up online on some CD database... it's been a few months so I forget the actual website but I googled it. (Why's it underlining "googled" as misspelled? It got added to the 21st century dictionary!)

In-browser spell-check dictionaries are actually pretty lousy and incomplete, not even having common words we use today that have been considered "proper" words for decades.

Then there's the fact that just because one person considers it a word, doesn't mean another person does. People are still debating over when exactly a word is considered a "proper" word. But that's a whole other story. :P

I heard somewhere that these remixes were actually live recorded, (i.e. orchestrated), with real guitars, drums, strings and such (and probably lots and lots of keyboard synths).

If it's true it explains why the guitars in the D1 remixes sound much more like real guitars than the ones in the D2 Redbook.

@Wazzazzle: Actually I think you may be half right. In the case of the D1 Redbook of Game02, I found a bare rough draft of the redbook track by Allister Brimble from his website. So does this mean they could be solely electronic since it's been established he did all of the D1-MAC Redbook tracks? That's what Brimble does is make music from a keyboard and add digital enhancements. Check it here: http://www.planetdescent.net/index.php?action=mgallery;sa=item;id=488
