The "Vanguard" is back
« on: May 24, 2010, 03:12:42 AM »
Hello guys, how's it going? It is I, Vanguard, the same from planetdescent.com and the online game (although I haven't been on there in ages now it seems)

So, how is it going for everyone? Online stuff still going on?

I was at the Mandriva forum and someone had asked about Descent 3, I think on how to get it going. I told him to go to planetdescent.com and when I went there, it wasn't working anymore.

I found this place and tried signing up, but it didn't work. I think they wanted to send an email to confirm and I never got that.
Next thing I know, I get an email from planetdescent.net wanting me to come visit again.
So I tried the login and well, here I am!

I don't really know the last thing I told people on here. My father did pass away in Sept of '09. And I have moved to my sisters this past month.

I did start talking with some very nice girl online.

But anyways, I also have a job, that helps a ton!

I should get going, have that job I just talked about. Hope everyone is doing well!

Hello!

The people hosting PD.com kind of pulled the old rug right out from under our feet with no warning. Unfair. Like Scyphi said when Descent for the Wii comes out (or was it just D4?  ::) ), and Descent gets popular again, they "ask for us back, we'll say NO! :P"

Here's a guide I created on how to get D3 multiplayer running.

Welcome, Vanguard! It's good to have you here.

Sorry to hear about your father. I do remember him and think about you from time to time. Glad your doing well, and I hope you're finally getting over that dry spell with women that you've been going through so long.

Now you just need your Mandriva bird avatar...

Hint hint: mention Linux only after the relationship goes steady. That's what I did. I even made a convert out of her, and she hates computers.

I, for one, hope this is much, much more than a reconnaissance mission.

Thanks; we're doing alright. I got a job about a month or so back, still working there. My mom and sister are hanging in there as well.
Things are certainly looking better overall.
How about you?

oops, did mention Linux once with her. Maybe she forgot. I didn't suggest Linux with her, but I did say I use it, and went to some school for it.
If serious enough, I may suggest it, or at least show her.
I think Linux is great, still using it, since 2006.

She's neat. I have no idea where it will lead though.

I am not sure I can get that Mandriva bird logo back. I can't access Planetdescent.com, and I took that from Mandriva 2007.0 and I am using 2009.1
bummer.

I found my penguin, but no idea on how to upload it on here.

Sorry Vanguard, I dug through the Wayback machine ... not a single avatar for you in the archive ... while a lot of other people's avatars are there ... yours is not.

hey, how's it going? I found the wallpaper and re-cut it. I just don't know how to get it on here. I tried imagine shack, but they have at least 6 different ways of loading it onto a website, or whatever.

If someone could point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

Try uploading it in your profile. Already tried? Should work now. You are required to have a post count of 5 to upload an avatar. This was due to a vulnerability in SMF (fixed now) that allowed a hacker to run arbitrary code embedded in an avatar image.

Yep, the Descent Guides Forum got hacked and they injected script into every php file on the site. That's where I caught it, I had a problem with DescentiaPedia and then noticed the script. Some on the SMF site report the next step was huge numbers of files uploaded, other reported their server being turned into spam machines. Pretty serious. Some people didn't become aware of the problem until they got shut down for excessive bandwidth.
