Happy New Year! Here's the third round of "World 1: Cold Frontier" again. I've also posted the 2012 and 2011 versions of the same map so you can notice the evolutions that have taken place over the past 3 years.

This thread has been stickied (and the 2012 thread un-stickied).
Put this vivid little guy on my work desktop this morning... yes, the temp here today really is what it says there.
Original in the size of your choice can be found ... here (http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/details/3164/livid_vizard.html).
-
I had a lizard for years... not that kind though.
-
I usually hate wallpapers that leave real estate on the sides of the screen, but this photo of a snow leopard was just too much win to keep off of my desktop. ;)
-
My fresh install of Linux Mint 14 Nadia with the "MATE" desktop environment. Clean and snappy on my laptop ;) Now to get Descent and Descent 2 up and running... 8)
INSERT: And just for grins, an extra screenshot of what the OS looks like with windows open.

My current desktop... :)

Ok, I have to type something here... hmmm oh I know:
From Astronomy Picture of the Day Archive (http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/archivepix.html).
-
Something Redwall-y today...especially seeing the author passed away two years ago today. :(
Ironically, this happens to be the thirteenth desktop I've used for this laptop, which I thought was a funny coincidence, given the year. :P
-
Redwall! I remember that. I wonder if I still have the books somewhere...
And you changed your avatar back to what's his name the feline booze runner. Come to think of it, I haven't looked at Lackadaisy for at least two years...
My desktop is still the jaguar of odd cuteness (or cute oddness?)
-
Yeah, I swapped back to Rocky without much fanfare or the such. No special reason why, other than I guess I decided I wanted it back. :-\
-
My recent experimentation with LXLE Lubuntu 12.04 ...
(a variant of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, LXLE link (http://www.lxle.net))
-
Finally changed it from that jaguar. No matter how cute jaguars are, too long is too long.
This is a picture from Calgary, taken by a cousin of mine while she was visiting there. She showed it to me today and... well, the picture will speak for itself, otherwise this post will get very wordy! There's another one which would make a really nice desktop as well...
And yes, that sentence before the last one was a pun.
-
I've never been to Calgary (one of my brothers was there for a while, and my parents were married in Alberta ...) but I'm told it's beautiful.
Anyway ...
Here's my Desktop for my latest Linux favorite Fuduntu (http://www.fuduntu.org/) which is a Fedora derivative polished to fit somewhere between Fedora and Ubuntu. I've really been impressed with it. I've pretty much ruled out using LXLE Lubuntu (http://www.lxle.net) due to some limitations and "quirks" that showed up.
The image I used is pretty cool, so I've posted the original image as well.
-
I've been to Edmonton several times but not Calgary.
Edmonton is really beautiful too though.
-
And... I've jumped to yet another Linux "flavor" (Fuduntu announced they are "closing shop"... bummer). I currently have a desktop running OpenSUSE (http://www.opensuse.org), another running Linux Mint (Mate) (http://www.linuxmint.com/), and I've setup my laptop with Xubuntu (http://xubuntu.org/) which is really working well plus it looks good.
Here's the desktop for the Xubuntu system which looks pretty nice and a deeper blue in real life, and also clean.
... But Scyphi (http://www.planetdescent.net/index.php?action=profile;u=12) thinks it's ... boring. So today I changed it to this:
Here's the original.
You can get it and others at http://www.wallchan.com (http://www.wallchan.com)
-
Likies!
But I must agree with Scyphi about the first one.
-
I know most of you would go, "Oh no! Sapphire's been playing Pokemon, oh no!" To be 100% clear, when it comes to Pokemon, I only play the video games period. And I don't even care of catching all Pokemon, just a fraction of 'em. So yeah, for my new randomizer, I found it on Deviant Art, it's Lucario as a Dragon Born
-
I'z not passing judgement on these things. I have a couple friends who still play pokemon games. And they still say very good things about them...
I probably would if I'd ever had a nintendo handheld.
-
New desktop. According to the artist, it's supposedly "scientifically proven to improve your desktop." :P
Relates to a tumblr blog by same artist called "Moonstuck" (http://woonastuck.tumblr.com/tagged/archive/chrono/). It's no longer updating, but it's still a great read. Very silly and epic at the same time. But mostly silly. ;D
-
Hmmm... Sounds like Mountain Time.
-
Yesterday's whim got me a different background for my laptop (Windows side).
EDIT: click here for original or other sizes (http://www.superbwallpapers.com/computers/firefox-14612/)

I added a link to the original. :)

I would've used this one last month if I had found it sooner. ::)
-
Scyphi's post reminded me that I'd changed my Linux desktop wallpaper yet again a while ago and had not posted it.
Props to whomever (other than Scyphi) can tell what it is in the pic.
Also, I'd post desktop pics of my latest project (a Linux based file server) but it's a "headless" server and all I'd be able to post is a blank screen with a couple lines of text. Not exactly post worthy viewing. :)
-
Props to whomever (other than Scyphi) can tell what it is in the pic.
So in other words, I guess I have to keep quiet. :P

A large number of pixels of various colors and brightness.
Seriously though, I am sure I have seen that before but can't quite place it. Eve perhaps?
-
That would be the Daedalus using its hyperdrive over Atlantis.
-
Can I at least say IHateHackers is on the right track?
Oh wait, I guess I just did. ::)
-
Wait, no, that's Prometheus. Daedalus has the hang pods adjacent the engines.
-
You're...still on the right track.
-
Is this a Stargate ship? It has a similar look to the Destiny in Stargate Universe (the only SG series I've watched).
-
Yes, it is a Stargate ship. Nobody has named it yet, though.
-
... and you're all getting warmer! :)
-
Is it the traveler ship?
-
Yup. The Ancient's "Aurora Class" ship that the Travelers got a hold of.
The hard part, is finding the episode where the pic takes place. I almost thought that pic wasn't actually in the episodes (I reviewed them looking for it) ... and then I realized it's there in an episode, but this copy is a mirror image.
-
Is it Aurora or a traveler ship? I iz confused.
-
Travelers.
"Aurora Class" is just what the humans call that ship design. They didn't know what the ancients called that style of ship, but they encountered the Aurora and after that they called that ship style "Aurora Class" just to simply say that it's a ship of the same design as the Aurora.
Man, I haven't visited this site in far too long.
-
I was looking around on the Stargate Wiki for any additional details to provide, and found the same pic as Techpro's desktop in one of their articles. The ship portrayed is apparently the Orion (or at least the scene was first constructed in association with the Orion, and then was recycled in later episodes for other ships where convenient). Link to pic (http://stargate.wikia.com/wiki/File:MyancientshipOrion_2.JPG)
-
... continuing slightly off topic ...
The Orion? That was the name Shepard gave the ship they found in a hanger at the planet where the people were living on top of a huge volcanic caldera (which was going to explode soon) and were using Ancient technology to tap the power from the volcanic activity. Shepard picked the name spur of the moment for lack of any other name.
It was in need of lots of repair and without the "Ancient gene" none of the people could activate the systems. Along came the humans and Shepard (who has the Ancient gene) activated systems and Rodney Mckay got it running enough for them to ride the shock wave of the explosion of the volcanic caldera enough for them to then trigger the hyperdrive just enough to reach orbit. That was about all they could do with it at that point (because hadly anything was working). Doing that allowed them to rescue a whole bunch of people from the volcanic explosion which made the planet uninhabitable for many years.
That ship next appeared when they "borrowed it" to help battle a couple wraith ships. However they had a hard time getting the weapons systems to work (a lot of stuff still wasn't working on the "Orion") and shortly after unleashing a bunch of drones which took out a wraith ship, the "Orion" had suffered too much battle damage and had to be abandoned right before it was destroyed.
Funny, the episodes in which the "Orion" appeared never show any clips of the "Orion" entering hyperspace, only of the "Orion" exiting hyperspace. The pic I used is clearly a ship entering hyperspace.
... OK, time to get back on topic. ...
Hey Scyphi, that link goes to some pretty nice pics of the Orion. More desktop material. 8)
-
Should be familiar.
-
Nice!
-
I hadn't changed by work desktop for quite some time ... until this one caught my eye.
Original can be found here at Interfacelift.com (http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/details/3293/calm_blue.html)
-
New desktop, featuring a sci-fi genre from the other side of the pond, if you catch my drift. ;)
It's a little stretched in order to fit my desktop, but not noticeably enough for me to try and adjust it to fit better.
-
Niceies.
I've had a few lately but this is the newest one.
I didn't stretch it, but if you look you can kind of see where I copied part of the purple grass to make it fit over my entire screen.
-
Call me a (sorta) nutcase but, I'm excited for Pokemon X version.
(http://s23.postimg.org/ujoj1h1yv/xerneas_and_yveltal.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/ujoj1h1yv/)
-
Well, pretty reasonable to be excited about Pokémon X/Y, as it seems it will (in some aspects) revolutionise the videogame franchise. ;)
Even on the anime side, there's goin' to be the 'Origins' series, that I think it will bring some very nice and fresh air to the now boring and stagnant common series.
So, both are indeed pretty good news regarding Pokémon. :)
-
New desktop, just until November, at least.

Looks like a Quincy episode, the one about the stonefish.

Nice pic though!
This new Mac is a pretty sweet system, plus it does what I need (that Windows and Linux can't very very well. "Joke"? In your dreams, buddy.
Heh, Got tired of that pic already. Now I'm undecided between two pics.

Speaking of cute, I made this one out of a pic I've had for quite a while. I was just rummaging around folders and found it, so I don't remember where I got it.
It's a pine marten again.

Yeah they are pretty nice.
@Sapphire Wolf: I haven't seen Catching Fire yet either, but I really enjoyed the first movie so I'm hoping to see it while it's still in theaters.

Newest selection. Great shot.
