Awesome!  Did you use GX SCC to translate the midis to 8-bit NES style music?

I like it. The songs are subtly different, but are still SO close to how they original sound that I get all sorts of nostalgia listening to them. :D

Although some songs transitioned to 8-bit better than others. Some came out sounding empty.   :-\

Don't think it sounds like true 8-bit. The more familiar one that everyone knows is the NES. Sounds like he used GXSCC. They are still very nice.

EXACTLY right! Love that program... just drag and drop the midi in there, then click convert, and it's a WAV file! Then further convert to MP3 to listen in the car!

Yeah, I was a little disappointed at how Game02 sounded. It sucks starting off, but gets better as it goes further into the song. Game07 is badass all the way! I love how the 8-bit conversion brought out that twangy twang... I played that one on repeat on the way to work today. Game19 also sounds so friggin' badass... I'll post that one soon along with the rest of 'em here in a little bit.

Listening to all these files, it makes me wish I could be playing a 2D version of Descent... kinda like a cross between the old old old arcade game Asteroids and Legend of Zelda... you still have to get access keys and whatnot, but it's all done in a 2D bird's eye view.

Well it's mostly what No. 0 said... Descent works OK with FM and the like lo-fi, but... The expectations were more for something like Chip32 sound.

OK, I kind of liked #4, however #5 just didn't work for me, but #6 got ran through a few repeats (that's good).  I liked #7 (the original being one of my favorites).  I thought #8 and #9 are OK.  Sadly, #10 and #11 just don't do it for me.

I'll get to the others later.

Meh. "8-Bit music" is a bit of a hit-and-miss with me most of the times, and I can't say it's exactly working for me. Maybe it's just the fact that the samples I've listened to sound partially like the original songs, but with some of the instruments either muffled or just annoyingly low quality. Maybe I'm just moving away from "8-bit music." I don't know.
