I had 21 lives going into Descent Vignettes Level 19 "The Center Pillar" and the red reactor room alone took me down to 16 lives--ON TRAINEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wait until you hear the version he's remastered for Descent WiiWare... completely awesome (I've heard it - I'm listening to it now ).

what is this level 19? the original or some add-on? does it work with Descent rebirth?

It's part of Descent: Vignettes, an addon mission created by DarkFlameWolf. It works fine in Rebirth, as it is a classic Descent 1 mission using no features exclusive to any port (though it does have colored lightning in d2x-xl).

You can even get pretty far in Vignettes using the original DOS executables, but I tried that one for fun, and uh...

Level 19:

This was actually easy for me on Hotshot. Got to move fast. When you get into the later tunnels, just start unloading missiles.

@Omega: Well what happened was, after I got out of the yellow room, I got surprised by some damn fusion hulks that spawned from the center room and that ba****d shaved my shields down from 200 to 45 in just a few blows. Then, I went in the red room and got pwned RIGHT next to the reactor so all my sh*** is right there and I wasted 5 lives trying to get it back in the middle of invisible drillers, invisible hulks, and a fusion hulk.

I used to be good. I consider myself an EXCELLENT keyboarder, but on this particular laptop, I'm not allowed to press more than two buttons at the same time. It's impossible to charge up fusion blasts unless I stand PERFECTLY still. I need something that'll quad-chord if there is such a thing because I don't like using all those game pads/joysticks etc. That's why I play on trainee! I'm a sitting duck if I don't!

Can't press more than two? Wow, what do you do if you need Ctrl-Alt-Del? I'd get a new keyboard, that one is broke.

How do you get the music for Vignettes? More importantly, HOW do you get those beautiful textures that are in DarkFlameWolf's demo videos on youtube of the level set??? They're AMAZING! Are they high res textures? And also, can they be implemented into regular D1?

yes and yes.

First you need to go to www.descent2.de and download d2x-xl and get it to run. Once that is finished, go to his downloads section and download my Quake texture pack. Follow instructions on how to install said textures and then load up Vignettes and enjoy.

Or just install them into the mods folder for Vignettes, like I did.

@Darkflamewolf: Okay, on the site, I do not see anything that is labeled as "Quake" textures, but under "Mods and Conversions" I see a "Descent Mod - Alternative textures and robots provided by DarkFlameWolf for Descent 1:First Strike." Is that the one?
