PS3 6 axis controller on a PC
« on: April 07, 2011, 12:49:42 PM »
I know the topic of using game pads pops up from time to time, but I haven't found one specifically for this topic.

I am finding numerous web sites with instructions and downloads for drivers to use a Sony PS3 6 axis controller as a PC game controller. This site hardcoreware.net has both 32 and 64 bit versions.

I have several PS3 6axis controllers and am curious to see how this works with Descent. Has anybody else done this yet?

There are times you strive for greatness, to reach lofty goals and accomplish
noble deeds. Then there’s the rest of the times you just want to blow s--- up.

I had the Saitek version and it was a poor controller for Descent.  While it would seem there are plenty of buttons on board, but there are not and you have to take your thumbs off the sticks to use the hat switch or the 6 buttons above the right stick. Also you need both hands to hold this device, so you lose control when you need extra buttons on you keyboard.  I ended up trying to use a foot throttle with it.  That helped a little, but not enough. Another issue is the short throw of the joysticks.  They are just too short to allow fine control.

Assuming of course that we are talking about the same thing, this is what I had:
