What's your favorite version of Descent...

I voted for Descent 3. While I like 1 and 2, either as original or enhanced, Descent 3 is the best!

I can't really say, but I already know it's neither of the D2X-XL ones

D2 using Rebirth, personally. I like the style of D1 better these days though... but D2 is in my username, and I've had many a fun hour with it.

I can never get XL to run properly due to my integrated graphics card.  ::) Plus, everything is a bit confusing with all the features and options, though thankfully the number of sliders and buttons and checkmarks has been reduced greatly with 1.14. Plus... I just like trilinear filtering, transparency, and that's it.  ;)
I, for one, hope this is much, much more than a reconnaissance mission.

For me it's a tough choice between D1 and D2, and if I had to pick between them (which is what you're asking) it would be D2 (since I can easily convert the levels from D1). I play with DXX-Rebirth, DOS box and an old Win98 machine I keep just for runing the original D1 and D2.
It's also a lot easier to make your own levels, which all 3 of my kids have dabbled in that.

I've tried D2X-XL but cannot keep it running on my hardware (even using the -pureD2 switch). I do like some of the eye candy it offers, but if gameplay suffers, what's the point?

D3 gives me the least compatability issues with current hardware and I do like the additional multiplayer options, but it doesn't have the same "feel".

D2 gets my vote.  ;D

I voted D2. Decent editing power, and as a old school fanatic, (Seriously, I use dosbox for most purposes ) It is probably the best of the classic ones due to its features.

D1 alone is still great, of course, and D3 is pretty good too

I voted classic D1. I'm not sure why I like D1 so much, but I just do. I do note that when it comes to custom levels and the such, D1 frequently had the more creative levels, and not so much the other levels.

D2's good too, but after awhile I grow tired of it. I think it's mostly because it's just a flashier version of D2, really, with some added goodies thrown in.

D3 would get second place, because it's a kind of hybrid of the past two games in attitude, with a whole new look. It's only real downfall is that it lacks that dark feel it's predecessors had. And of course, it's not perfect technically speaking, with all it's bugs and the such.

Overall, though, all three rock. :)

As for what I play them on, it depends, mostly on my mood or what computer I am. Usually, I'll play it all through D2X-XL because it's more customizable and it's already set-up. But there are times when I would just prefer good ol' classic Descent and use Rebirth. On my laptop, it's always Rebirth, as it won't run D2X-XL for some reason (I suspect it's a video cared issue, either way, I'm not heartbroken over it, I didn't get the laptop to be a gamin machine anyway). :)

My favorite is Descent 2, but I play Descent 3 a lot.

All three do indeed "rock"!

I like D3 the best. I like D2 Rebirth the second. D1Rebirth the last, but not least. I do not like the XLs because of complete changes to the everything. (and the creator's greaaaat social skills)

Yeeeah, dangerous topic - in any Descent community, unfortunately (and that's from experience).  ;)

lol! He's going to get to the 3,000 powerup mark in no time just like his posts on the original PD!

On topic: In Florida, where I live, they don't seem to have very many outdoors stuff to do except fishing, and that's just about it. You can't hike any mountains because I think that the naturally highest altitude is.... mmmm... oh 25 feet. :P The weather is hot and humid so playing sports in THE DIRECT SUNLIGHT IN FULL EQUIPMENT is out of the question for someone who lived in Oregon where it was nice and cool (getting acclamated to the weather is hard especially since I just spent a week in Oregon this summer). I might have to stick to lazy golf and slice a few into someone`s windshield. :P

*Right now* it is poooooring rain and thunder and lightning. Just so you know what it`s like right now.
