Something about the intellicons in Project Mandrill
« on: January 07, 2011, 03:53:52 PM »
Come to think of it, Kyouryuu might've slightly gotten it from Transformers, specifically, the word Decepticon.  My thought of now about the Intellicons is "Sounds like a subgroup of intellegent Decepticons".

It's still a great level set.

Yes, (once again) I grew up with Transformers G1 (when they did re-runs promoting Generation 2 in the early to mid 1990s).

I still think Project Mandrill had some of the best robot designs ever made for D2.  Especially the "iron worms" in level 4 and the super sidearm modula type things in level 3 onward.  It's too bad they weren't released free to use like the TEW robots were...

Hmm...didn't Project Mandrill have that one level with the energy-bot bosses that looked kind of like mutated Diamond Claws that you aboslutely HAD to beat with the Guass cannon or no go? Or am I thinking of something else?

No they were only vulnerable to energy, and they took that away from you... that's why they were brutal.
I can (barely) beat them at rookie, I keep trying to do Mandrill at Hotshot, and I keep failing when I get to those bosses.

Oh right, THAT's why those bots were always getting me, 'cuz I kept forgetting that... :P

Those bots were wickedly cool, though. :)

Garry Knudson had made the bosses in Mandrill, as well as the handful of custom robots in Phobos Encounter.  I did the rest of the robots.  I don't think I intentionally meant a Transformers reference with their name.  Rather, my teenage mind thought that "-icons" made anything sound futuristic.   :D

In that case it's a good thing they aren't 'Neanderthalicons'.  ;)
