It'd be nice to have that as part of my avatar, black background with the fire in front displaying my pilot name. I don't know if I need permission or not. I certainly wouldn't want to do anything that may get someone upset.

I don't think an animated gif will work for an avatar, but you are welcome to try.

Do you know how it may work for even a signature? I don't know this stuff well. if you saw the post from pyrojockey, he had his named spelled out with this. me, I just have a boxed image displaying fire.

I seem to vaguely remember it.  I don't think it will work in either, because the server needs to rewrite the image for security reasons, and that breaks the animation.

There is a plugin for the Gimp that makes similar, if not identical, fire animations.

My old terra avatar animated fine, if I remember correctly. You may have to adjust it a bit though, to compensate for size limits.
