Descent 1 & 2 on a AWE32 music card (pre-rendered)
« on: September 11, 2010, 01:46:17 PM »
I have played both Descent 1 & 2 with the default midi music played by Windows built-in Software MIDI Synthesizer and recently found vidoes on Youtube by goomer24 showcasing how AWE32 reigns superior over it. It is quite a big difference to me. Now I wished that I could play Descent 1 & 2 using that soundcard... or use the pre-rendered version that goomer24 provided.

After some tinkering, I managed to get the files. Just leaving them floating around on Youtube doesn't seem to do much justice now, does it?  ;) Good thing D2X-XL supports custom music tracks. Now the only thing left to do is to share these files so all of you can experience the difference... but I can't find any upload button. I suppose they are added manually by the forum admin.

Here are the links to the files instead.

P.S. I'm new here and I lack a joystick and gamepad input. Almost never a good thing for a Descent player.

Welcome!

These sound amazing! I wish I had a music card like that.

But what's with the first part of the Descent 2 Game 1 music? It fades in. I had to do some editing to make it have the sudden great intro that it has. Even now, it still is not exact.

Thanks to the persistent activities of spammers, uploading files requires that you have a post count, IIRC it is set at 5 posts.

Also the maximum file size is 20mb.

Quite understandable. I get spam in my E-mail almost daily.

NUMBERZero, that's how it was when I got the files. There's nothing I can do. I did wish goomer24 also done Descent 1 Main Theme. It's the only one missing.

Does this include the D2 menu music? That music ROCKS.

NICE!

I've been looking everywhere for the D2 mixes (found the D1 ones a while ago).

I have the D1 menu theme too, but it's a bit quieter than these.  I may be able to make it louder, but don't count on it.  I downloaded these D1 mixes anyway.

Have you posted this on the XL forums?

FYI, Rebirth supports ogg soundtracks too (though the method is a bit more obscure).

Descent 2 soundtrack will be re-recorded and uploaded shortly.
Also, take a look at the D1 soundtrack again. Most of the videos have been reuploaded in higher quality (includes the D1 theme as well).

I might just upload the raw MP3s somewhere as well.
