What is it please that makes up the "D1" feeling? Textures? Sounds? Weapons? Robots? You can use only those from D1 in any D2X-XL mission. Btw, I wasn't saying he had to convert the mission (in a sense of trying to force him into it).

I dunno what makes up the D1 feeling Karx, I really wish I could tell you so you could use you're almighty programming skills to apply it. But just something about D2 taints the D1 feel. Not that this is a bad thing. It just means that D2 has it's own feel that's different from D1.

Also, building things within the limitations of the original D1 adds to the challenge for the level builder, and if successful, adds to the charm for the player of the level. Some of my favorite D1 levels are my favorites simply because of what the builder was creative enough to accomplish within D1 that made you stop and wonder how they did it, whereas in D2 on up, the mystery is lessened somewhat.

Again, not that there's anything wrong with that. It's just...some days you want to do it the hard way. :)

I'm sure Sapphire Wolf has his own reasons as well.

I am willing to bet that half of the reason why D1 levels feel so different in D2 is because of the palettes -- many of the D1 textures did not transfer over to the D2 palettes very well, and this just kinda kills them in several cases (see that door with the four rectangular panels? I'm talking about that.) Naturally, since D2X-XL already supports high-color textures and DXX-Rebirth, in theroy, after the .PIG addon system is complete, could possibly support high-color textures, this part of the issue could be solved.

I'd also cite robot sounds and the crippling of the D1 bosses as part of the problem

I agree with Scyphi -- Nefarius Assault is D1 but it looks like D3 and that's the main reason I like it.  Only problem is it's way too hard for me :/.

Insanity's also probably onto something on the more technical aspect. Now that I think about it, the D1 bots AI always did seem a little off in D2, even in D2X-XL (no offense, Karx).

I was recently fiddling around with the custom exit terrain with PaintShopPro 7 and a little of Photoshop CS  Here are the results of the custom exit terrain (and textures) (taken via D1x Rebirth):
Level 1's custom exit texture-

Level 10's custom exit texture and terrain-

Level 14's custom exit texture and terrain-

(I kinda gave the last 4 levels industrial looking terrain bumpings since the final world is an industrial world).

Anyways, I'm currently toning things down slightly in the mission set, several touch ups, and working on the briefing (NO suggestions or ideas, please.  I'll handle this one, trust me. :) )

Oh yeah for those who were gonna wonder what 4 worlds that this mission will take place, here are the following planets and their environment-

Planet 1 - Xeria
Environment: Jungle/Rainforest, Water

Planet 2 - Dru'on
Environment: Fire and Lava

Planet 3 - Vorauth
Environment: Ice Plains

Planet 4 - Titanius VII
Environment: Industrial

Secret level worlds (either a moon or planet):
Secret level 1 - Rehulni (the moon of Dru'on)
Environment: Rocky Vaccum
Inner Environment: Toxic waste tunnels

Secret Level 2 - Planet Hynren
Environment: Rocky Plains
Inner Environment: Varies

Secret Level 3 - Tyur' kalinx (moon of Titanius VII)
Environment: Alien
Inner Environment: Alien Caves

I'll include the files containing 16 levels+3 secret levels at some point

I like the industrial exit texture.  Cool idea.
Kind of like Tycho Brahe, but obvious enough that it actually makes sense.

I think the sizing makes it look funny; the last picture that is. that looks like awfully LONG pieces of steel when you look at it. makes the pyro look like a micro machine. otherwise, it's all looking great to me.

Don't worry, Micro Machines have kind of been phased out, especially in the US, since Hasbro bought them out. Pity, too, I used to collect their Star Trek models.  :-\
