Wanted: socket 939 motherboard
« on: July 08, 2010, 09:13:37 PM »
Hi Descenters. I don't visit here often, but I do lurk around.

I am seeking a socket 939 motherboard of good quality with dual core support and PCI express for an upgrade. I have an AMD Athlon X2 4800, and I have a friend who will be sending me a Geforce 8800. All I need is a motherboard and I can give away or sell my socket A system. Does anyone have a socket 939 motherboard they are willing to part with?

Did you try ebay already? Maybe you'll find some ASUS A8V motherboard. There are still BIOS updates available for these making them suitable for dual core Athlons. Make sure to get the newer mobo release (there 1.0 and ... ummm ... something newer, can't remember the version number though).

eBay gets expensive. A quality used board there averages about 60 USD.

You are going off topic, canceler. I am looking for a board, and will not be selling the dual core processor I have.

zantor,

you probably don't have a choice though. Sockel 939 multicore Athlons are insanely expensive there, too. I wanted to upgrade my old s939 box, and in the end I just purchased new hardware (already had a spare PCIe gfx card though, making the upgrade less expensive).

Maybe a cheap upgrade bundle would be an idea too, but as far as I can see it you will have to bite the bullet somehow.

True, but he's just hoping someone has one they aren't using and are willing to part with cheap.

What I am looking for is a board someone is willing to part with for cheap, or one someone is willing to give away.

I found a motherboard from a local seller for a reasonable, competitive price relative to what can be found on ebay. I will be buying that, and a friend will be sending me a board if it works after he tests it.
