My First Build! :D
« on: May 31, 2010, 06:50:53 PM »
I think I've chosen all the parts I want. Now I just have to buy them.   :)

Here are the components I have chosen:

HardDrive: WD Caviar 500GB SATA 7200RPM 16MB Buffer - $49.99
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 (Bundled with the motherboard)
Motherboard: Biostar P43D3 ATX Motherboard - $124.99
VideoCard: EVGA 9500GT 512MB PCI-Express - $54.99
RAM: 2GB DDR3 PC3-10600 (1333MHz)/(2x1GB) DIMM Kit/CL9/Patriot Signature - $29.90
CD Drive: ASUS 24X OEM DVDRW - $22.99
Monitor: Samsung 2043SWX 20" Widescreen LCD monitor (1600 X 900 Resolution) - $119.99

It all totals up to about $402.

I am going to Fry's Electronics this sunday to buy all the parts. :D And should have it built just in time for summer!

Does everyone approve?  :P

Unless you're going to upgrade from existing hardware, you won't be going to be happy for long without a case and a PSU ...

And if you already own a PSU and it is too old, you won't be happy with it either. Make sure it can handle your new hardware (it doesn't just need to output enough power, it also needs to have the proper plugs).

And keep in mind if you overload a crappy PS (POS PS) then when it fries it could take the motherboard with it.

Ah yeah. I have a case as well. Forgot to mention that.  :P

It is quite old and I do not know how old either. It was given to me by my Dad, it isnt the prettiest thing in the world, but it works!  :)

Thanks for the warnings, Ill be sure to ask My Dad when he gets home.  ;)

Out of sheer curiosity and the fact that really do not know, has anyone ever done a custom-built laptop?

Very cool!

Nice how you got a nice monitor.  Also, that memory sounds to be a good deal!  Out of curiosity, what OS are you running?  I ended up running ubuntu, which I now love  ;)

Have fun fragging in descent on it! ;D

Hmm, Im still deciding.

I hate Vista, XP is ok, but if I get Linux, I wont be able to play the games I want to play. (I have Nothing against Linux.)

I might get Windows 7 Just because its more current.  :-X

If you had a chance to choose Windows 98 (suppose it's your current OS), or Windows ME, or Windows XP ... Would you completely skip ME and go right for XP?  Of course, because ME was a worthless piece of crap.

Consider Vista to be comparable to ME.  It's a nearly worthless piece of crap.  Go directly to Windows 7.  Do not stop at Vista, do not spend money on Vista ... just go straight to Windows 7.  My strong personal opinion.

Why do you even mention Vista? It has been replaced by Windows 7, and Windows 7 is a very good OS.

I'm a little rusty, but it goes something like this...
altkey->tools->folder options->view tab->search for "Hide extensions on known file types"->disable that.

Windows Vista=The operating system for the paranoid. :P

As for the Wii Laptop, no, not quite what I was thinking of, but yeah, that is pretty cool. :)
