My first computer was a Tandy Color Computer II. 16k of memory, programs were loaded either from a ROM cartridge of cassette. CGA displayed through a TV. No hard drive, but it did have Extended Basic on a chip. That would have been like, mid~late seventies.

Punch cards were pretty common back then, but I have never seen a machine before that can read, write and erase tape like that.

I didn't have a computer until 1988, and that was a 286 with Turbo! (go from 8 MHz to 12 MHz), came with 256k RAM, 5.25 inch 320k floppy drive, and yellow monochrome monitor.  (How cool is that?)

The first computer I got to actually use was a few years before that (late 1980) and was a TRS-80 Model III complete with cassette player for data recording (and for loading programs) and dot matrix printer.  Cost my brother around $2,000 (I think).  Had 64k RAM.

I think I vaguely remember seeing that yellow monochrome monitor computer years back. I remember being fascinated with how old it seemed at the time.

I can't remember what dad's first computer was, but I know that soon after he bought a Texas Instruments TI/99-4A computer. I never really got to play around with that one (obviously), but I do remember having a 386, and later, a 486SX2. The 486 was my first computer and, not coincidentally, my first experience with Descent (my brother bought it when it first came out). 66MHz, 16MB RAM, Creative Labs Sound Blaster AWE32... At the time it was a beast - and at only 2000 bucks, no less. I kept messing around with that machine until at least 2003, when I got my AMD Athlon XP 2400+ machine (which just recently died )

Heh, young'ns.  

My first computer was a Commodore 64 with 64K RAM [TV output, cassette drive for storage], but it came with no software.  No games, nothing!  Everything I did on it had to be something I programmed myself.

I credit much of my current career as a software developer to that machine.

The girl would probably most likely be my mom. She knows how to do a few things, but try to teach her anything beyond Scrabble makes her go "wuuuuuuut?" She ALMOST made it at MechWarrior.


My first computer was a (insert Zero's first computer here). It ran Windows 98 so it wasn't too complicated. (Insert specs here). It also came with Hellbender (my avatar is the pilot from that game ^^ ).

I don't even remember what my first computer was, but I know it came with descent as a promotion. I was too young to play back then, but I watched my dad play it all the time. If only he'd play descent now :/ (or any computer games)
