Topic: Which Descent game do you think is the best in the series

I picked Descent 1 because that one was the most fun and the hardest

I'm not all for the nostalgia of playing the first two... I just like D3.

Descent 3 is fun but Descent 1 is a old school classic

Well, you'd think that the name "D2Junkie" would have something to do with it...  

But actually, that's more or less fallen by the wayside. As I get older, I think D1 is the best, and here's why:

1. Difficulty. This game is a classic example of how old games were tremendously difficult. Even on the Rookie setting, the game can get really difficult really quickly (with a keyboard, I still have trouble making it through secret level 1). I've never beaten the game, even on trainee.

2. Design. As often a point of criticism as it is a point of praise, D1's levels are intentionally confusing. There's hardly any form to them. There's no special architecture to which everything is designed around, with the exception of a few levels (26, for instance). While very architecturally intricate designs can be very cool (see "The Enemy Within"  campaign for D2), there's just something equally as enjoyable in a very maze-like, confusing layout.

3. Simplicity. Ten weapons. A whole lotta 'bots. A few keys. Blow the reactor, leave. There's no difficulty in understanding what to do or where to go - just in memorizing secret item locations, energy centers, level-specific tactics, etc. The action keeps moving from start to finish. In D2, it occasionally slows down when you're searching for switches and such. In D3, it happens more often than I'd like to think about. But in D1, it's all about going where the automap says you haven't if you've gotten stuck, and that's about it.

So that's my reasoning. Of course, D2 and D3 are awesome in their own right, and you can't beat D3's multiplayer.

D3 multiplayer is the best. Thing about Descent 2 and 3 the action would slow down finding stuff. In Descent 1 it's nonstop in your face action.  I just beat Descent 1 just about year ago. I beat D2 and D3 the year they came out. And I like the maze type stuff in Descent 1. And D2junkie whats with you picking Descent 1 your such a liar lol.

I like them all and I play them all, but I keep going back to D1 more than the others.

I voted for D3. I loved D1 when it came out, never played D2 until recently. I think D2 is too abstract.

Tough choice. I have to say D3 because of longer and objective-based missions.

Tough choice.  I've always enjoyed Descent 1, and Descent 2 has always been lots of fun and since I have the Vertigo series as well ... endless playability.

I voted for Descent 3 which rocks with the multiplayer, the graphics are better, and ... call me weird ... I actually like the single player in Descent 3.

I prefer Descent 2.  The original game play design, with improved environment and weapons.  Descent 3 sucked for single player.  Only good thing with Descent 3 is the multi-player.

Darkwing, I have to disagree... I'm with TechPro, D3 singleplayer is great!

D3 singleplayer is good...I just wish there was more of it.

As such, I voted for D1, as it was much more singleplayer oriented, and there are tons of brilliant levels out there, both custom and original, that were made for that game that I never seem to get tired of playing again and again. D1 almost had the best atmosphere, very dark and mysterious, which really begins to dwindle in the later games.

Then, of course, there are all of the aforementioned reasons other people have stated about D1.

All three of the Descent games are pretty good, though, grouped close enough together that it's almost pretty hard to choose a favorite.

If D4 was made, I would want it to be a hybrid of all three games, being able to choose different gameplay styles (so one could choose to do D3's objective based missions or D1's arcade-style destroy and run missions).

I voted for Descent 1.  It is the only game out of the 3 where I can just keep playing it over and over and over.  Descent 2 was good, they kept a lot of the same things and added sweet new guns (like the Helix, that thing is so amazing).  But the alien environment-like-tone just didn't do it for me.  I was so used to Descent 1 that Descent 2 just felt like it was not the same.  And don't even get me started on Descent 3.  I play it once in a while lol.
