« on: December 22, 2009, 01:15:36 PM »
That's right. On GOG.com Descent 1,2, and 3 have all been discounted for the holiday season along with numerous other titles. Check it out here.

I was thinking of getting the kids some new games... but they are so busy playing flash browser games for free, and other free games like RoBlox I figured why spend money?  ;)

WillyP, Steam currently has a holiday special going on. Bought "Defense Grid" for less than 3 bucks... If your kids like anything in the tower-defense genre and have a computer that can run anything 2004+, I highly recommend it. Tons of fun.  ;D
I, for one, hope this is much, much more than a reconnaissance mission.

Nah, it's a pretty slow machine with motherboard video. Running the timetest demo, the framerate would dip into the single digits at times. Playing D3 online it would stutter horribly when there was much going on... just when you needed it the most. Playing SP sometimes it would get so slow it was like flipping through photos one at a time. They used to play Lore quite a bit, untill they got into some of the online games. RoBlox gets laggy sometimes but not to often. You have to download and install to play it.

Guess I should have knocked on wood when I said it was slow... This morning I got up to a chorus of 'Dad... the computer won't come on'. Power supply dead, hopefully didn't take anything else with it. I Don't have a spare PS so I could not test it. I ordered a power supply from newegg. If the motherboard is bad too then they may have to do without for a while.

That's exactly what happened to us. My dad thought the PS was dead, but it turned out to be the motherboard.

A lot of times the power supply craps out and sends a high voltage pulse to the motherboard, frying it. You may or may not see damage on either. Other times the high voltage will take out other components, such as a video card. Sometimes a malfunction of a mother board takes out the power supply. I don't have a spare psu to test it with, but I do have a psu tester which says the psu is bad.
