Interesting... looks like a great way to collaborate on projects, whether to build levels, plan a lan, or whatever.

Here's a good video that shows how it works: http://wave.google.com/help/wave/using-wave.html

I'm not sure I could use it if I can't log into Google. Do I have to log into Google to use it? What would I do with it even if I could? It looks interesting, I'm curious, but it's not like all my friends and family are on it. It also mentioned having it on a domain. Would that be, like, say, a Planet Descent Wave?

Those are some good questions, WillyP.

Yes, you do have to have a Google Account, however that is easy, simple, and free.  Just go to http://www.google.com, click "Sign In", and click on "Create and Account Now" then follow the steps.  You can use any valid email account you wish and they hardly ask for any information at all.

After you have a Google Account, once you get an invitation to be part of the "preview" (Google Wave is still in development stages called "preview"), you can then get your Google Account activated on Google Wave ... and go from there.

What can you do with Google Wave?  They have a loooooong video you can watch (1 hour and 20 minutes) if you're a glutton for punishment ... or you can watch so other videos describing Google Wave in much shorted videos.  Like this one:  http://wave.google.com/help/wave/drwave.html

There is also a Google Wave Blog that may help to get an understanding of what Google Wave does and where it's headed.  http://googlewave.blogspot.com/

There are some videos that they've published that are short pieces about things you can do with Google Wave ... one of them demonstrates it well.  If I can find it where you don't have to be on Google Wave to see it ... I'll post a link to it.

Oh yeah, a PlanetDescent Wave?  Might be fun.  In the same way that the Shout Box on this forum is near real-time chatter, a PlanetDescent Wave you BE real-time chatter and collaborate with text, docs, files, pictures, video, etc among PlanetDescent users that are on Google Wave.  ... but I do not know how much it would actually get used.  It might be popular, maybe not.

EDIT:  I found the overview clip I was looking for:

I also found this clip explanatory as well:

Thanks, but I can't login to my account at Google, nor can I make a new one. I've tried countless times, and I keep getting an error saying I have to enable cookies. I used to be able to log in, but it stopped working... maybe 6 months or a year ago.

And I did see the video about how wave works, it looks pretty cool. My question was more like, what would I  do with it.

Yeah, I have it now (on three different accounts) ... but I'm trying to figure out what I'd use it for.  I've learned what it does so far and what it's intended for, but I currently don't have much need of that ... yet.

Right. Like Facebook or any other social network, It's pretty pointless if your friends aren't there.

I can see how it'd be spectacularly useful, though. One of my first thoughts was that the Descent Fan Fiction forum, if it had more users, could really use something like this. But other than that, I, too, can't see a use I'd have for it. :|

It is a very good platform for group discussions, group plannings, and group projects.  Why the "wave" term, beats me.

Any hoo ...  I'm now in possesion of a LOT of invites (more than 50).  Anybody want/need an invite?  Even if you're just curious, drop me a line, pm, whatever, and I'll shoot you an invite.

lol... I'm very curious. I'll see if I can get my google account straightened out. I suspect my a/v is blocking Google cookies.

While you're working that out, want me to shoot you an invite to your pd.net address?  or a different one?

I'll take an invite, TP. My Gmail account address is on my profile.  ;)
I, for one, hope this is much, much more than a reconnaissance mission.
