Can one use tv speakers while using receiver as well?
« on: September 09, 2018, 12:10:19 PM »
I know this is a strange thing to ask, but this is being asked to save space. Story/explanation below if you wish to read it .

Id like to try out the tv speakers to save space until i havd money to get more compact speakers.
I dont do surround sound, nor loud volume. Anyways,
Im pretty good with setting up cables, hdmi, etc, but bnt knowledgeable about hdmi hardware connecting to a tv to get sound out of the tv itself. Is there a way to work this out? Story below, not necessary to read.

My father gave me some really nice speakers. I love the audio, but they are big and some by me and kids, sort of ugly.
Its also may make the difference of getting a sectional couch to fit in our living room.

If your receiver has HDMI outputs then just connect the HDMI cable between the receiver and TV and you should be good to go. The HDMI cable will carry both sound and picture.

Sorry, been busy with housing stuff. We close this Friday :)

But anyway,
I have a receiver with HDMI cable, 1 going out, 4 going in. The one going out is going into the TV.
It sounds like what you're already saying, but I am not getting audio.

I bought it used, so if the config is right, maybe the speakers don't work.

There's probably some setting somewhere, buried deep in some menus...

You say you are not getting sound, but are you getting a picture?

Apparently your receiver expects you to use the speakers connected to the reciever, not the tv. So it strips out the audio from the HDMI. I would guess that's how most people would use a receiver.
