Descent 1 Shareware MIDIs?
« on: October 14, 2015, 11:12:21 AM »
Anyone know where I can find the MIDI files for Descent 1 shareware version? The only thing I found from a search of this site and Google are the MP3 versions of the OPL3 formats. Can someone provide a link please? Thanks.
I like to think I have a Descent taste of music.

Well, I have a few select D1 midis still, but I doubt they're the shareware version you want, and they're just a few personal favorites that lingered from back in the day when midis were still the thing to have.

IDK if you ever got a hold of these, but I had them sitting around. They're in .hmp format. Pretty sure that's the format they were in, don't see why I would have ever messed around with the file format for any reason.

They are also available in .ogg in the files section.

Ian, do you mind if I upload your zip to the files section also?

If you open Descent.hog in DTX2, you will find (most of) them as the .hmq FM Stereo Mix files.

hmq's don't play properly outside of the game because they were meant for the OPL chips that don't get put in sound cards any more.
But if you rename one to game12 and put it in the descent 1 base folder you can still play it through setup.exe with dosbox.

The last time I had DTX working was on Windows Vista I think...

I didn't particularly like the demo mixes of the songs.  The level 3 song doesn't work for me without the drums and one of the others was sped up to some ridiculous level.
