I do hope that all the spoken dialogue for when you pick up anything are just placeholders, and are not going to be a permanent feature. Not winning me over with those, as they just seem redundant very quickly, and not worth the effort. The only one I could only see any real use to is the "someone is charging" and that's only in multiplayer, in certain gameplay modes.

That said, it does look very nice for a pre-alpha release. I can agree that there's some more balancing that needs doing (and I haven't even played it yet) but it's going in the right direction, it seems. :)

I didn't care for that too much either, but I do think that's what they are going with. Maybe there's an option to turn that off.

According to Wingman in the chat room it is a placeholder.

I thought it might. The vocals really didn't seem to be the sort of thing they'd do. Besides, past experience has shown the Descendant crew like to do the vocals for placeholders, if only because they sometimes seem ridiculous. For those who haven't heard it yet, check out the placeholder sound they had used for the Vulcan just prior to opening up the pre-alpha:

I want that to be the official sound effect for the Vulcan so badly....  :P

Watched the video. Great commentary, good observations. So far it seems very impressive for a pre-alpha, and it sure seems like the crew is doing a good job of nailing down the Descent formula. It really seems like speed and pacing are right on target with D3 multiplayer so far, so that's good.

Gettin' me pumped for more new Descent!  :D
I, for one, hope this is much, much more than a reconnaissance mission.

They have opened the 'Early Pre Alpha Test' to all backers, so I was able to jump in for a bit, played around blasting some bots.

Yeah, they're off to a great start. It definitely feels right to me, gameplay-wise.
