I figure if you have two speakers and the setting is set to surround, you'd have a hard time hearing dialogue.

So maybe it won't hurt to ask this, is there a way to hear people talk and not have the action like sounds SO loud?
I don't always mind volume, but I reside in an apartment. Isn't there some setting in the movie itself or the receiver to allow you to hear voices clearly enough without having to turn down the volume so often?

Most likely thing you could do is adjust the EQ to emphasize the frequencies of voices.  You'll need to figure out how to access the EQ on your sound system which can be a pain.  I think if you look on wikipedia for the frequencies of a voice or even your range of hearing you can find good enough information to know what to do with it once you've got it.

I may try that if I'm daring enough, thanks
